Writers at the Woolshed
Providing quality events for writers and readers
Writers at the Woolshed runs a series of small, quality events for writers and readers; these include
pop-up festivals, writing workshops and a winter writing retreat.
Our first festival was held in Bowna on the Southern Slopes of New South Wales in March 2021,
the festival was held again in April 2024 in the Riverina city of Wagga Wagga.
The writing workshop series takes place in the beautiful Southern Highlands town of Bowral and
provides writers with the opportunity to learn from award winning authors.
Our first Winter Writing Retreat will be held at The Hermitage, Mittagong from 13-18 July 2025 where we will be joined by award winner authors Ashley Kalagian Blunt, Dr Lee Kofman, Dr Eleanor Limprecht, Dr Betty O'Neill and Irish-Australian poet, Audrey Molloy . During the retreat you will attend a masterclass each morning before having the afternoon to write in your private ensuited room or enjoy all that the beatutiful Southern Highlands has to offer. Your evenings will be filled with author discussions, interviews and activities while also connecting with other writers and our guest authors.
Follow us on Facebook and Instagram, and sign-up for our newsletter, Clippings from the Woolshed to ensure you are among the first to hear details of our workshops and Winter Writing Retreat, and where our festival will pop-up next.

- It's a wonderful two days, the writers were fantastic and the paddock-to-plate dinner was outstanding. I'll definitely go next year.
Linda Foster, Bowral
- ' Writers at the Woolshed' in 2021 was an exposure to articulate authors with a range of shared experiences in the environmental landscape. All helpful in crafting my thoughts, words and actions for the role I need to play in the future of this planet. Since then, my writing has come on in leaps and bounds. The wonderful mix of authors and attendees with a connection to the environment made that event a memorable experience. Patti Miller's workshop was the turning point in my writing. I willforever be grateful for the fundamental lessons she taught me and theseeds of imagination that she planted, especially encouraging the useof all our senses in crafting our stories.
Leeuwin Beeck, Perth, WA
- At the previous event I enjoyed the variety of stimulating authors, their engagement with the audience and the informality of their presentations. I especially appreciated the inclusive way in which the authors conducted their outdoor workshops and generosity of their advice and commentary. Being in an intimate and beautiful setting gave me inspiration and great encouragement to continue my own work. The conviviality among former strangers brought the group together and the food and wine were excellent. From a structural, balance and organisational point of view I doubt it could have been better. I have already booked my place for 2024, if only to catch up with like-minded friends.
